Westpeak Mobility is excited to announce sponsorship of the Denver Barbarians Wheelchair Rugby Club.
The Denver Barbarians Wheelchair Rugby Club is a nonprofit and proud member of United States Wheelchair Rugby Association (USWRA), where both male and female athletes compete using specialized rugby wheelchairs. The sport involves intense physical competition, striving to score the most points. Eligible athletes must have limb paralysis or limb loss to compete, thus all participants are classified by a point system based on their functional abilities to ensure fair and balanced competition.
However, Denver Barbarians are not just a rugby team; they represent a vibrant community that promotes belonging and empowerment for individuals with disabilities. Their efforts demonstrate that with grit and community, anything is possible. The team’s mission extends far beyond the court, championing inclusivity and excellence in adaptive sports.
These tournaments take the Denver Barbarians across the State lines, all the way from Florida to Washington. Head Coach, Nick Pearce, emphasizes that this is a team both on and off the court. Wheelchair Rugby is a gateway for individuals to step outside their comfort zones and explore new possibilities. As a team, members travel, share experiences, and exchange valuable insights. This sport offers a platform for wheelchair users to build confidence in a world that isn’t totally accessible. For some, wheelchair rugby has provided a supportive environment to travel for the first time after an acquired injury, helped build strategies navigating “non-accessible” environments, and promoted confidence to continue to pursue their passions.
As expressed by Head Coach Pearce, “Together, we are not just building a team; we are creating a legacy of strength and inspiration that will resonate for years to come.”
Come May, the Denver Barbarians gear up for the National Championships, following an impressive first-place victory at the Columbus Collison Tournament. Currently ranked 19th overall, the team is steadily climbing the ranks and preparing to make the push for the national title! With that, two of their very own Denver Barbarians, Colton Parker and Logan Fuller ,were chosen to attend the Team USA Selection Camp this January. Fuller is moving on to the National Training Squad this month to try to secure a spot on the USA team for the 2025 World Championships.
Westpeak Mobility is grateful to be a part of the Denver Barbarians' inspiring vision of community, inclusivity, and resilience.
